Future funk artist Fibre! is seeing his 2016 album 810 reissued by Neon City Records, which makes this as good a time as any to talk about it. By which I mean, get hyped! 810 is one of his better-known releases and a powerful demonstration of his talents. Really, all you need to know about 810 is that it goes HARD and feels GOOD! 810 contains some bangers that still feel red hot more than a half-decade on from their debut, including the thrilling whirlwind of emotions laced with string samples and caffeinated stutter-sputter beats that is "Echoplex," the gliding, chirp and clatter of the cyber-funk fugitive anthem "Seraphine," and the relentless, sonic splash of the Dionysian disco tide "Don't Stop!" Fibre's gift is taking familiar rhythmic motifs and turning up their potential with impeccable sequencing. It might sound simple, but it is rarely done so well. He is a master at locating the proper pivot points in French house mixes and connecting a jumper cable to them that supercharges the grooves with luminescent motion and a sense for sampling that was honed in the backchannels and web culture of digital dustbin spelunking. Fibre! has an aggressively euphoric style that will get you higher than a disco ball filled with helium. Grab hold of it with both hands and let it jettison you into the clean, cool starlight of the night sky.
