Album Review: Rejoicer - Energy Dreams

Rejoicer is the one-man hip-hop production team Yuvi Havkin. Yuvi, currently living in LA, hails from Tel-Aviv, and is credited by many as the driving force behind Israel’s modern beat movement. Energy Dreams is Yuvi’s debut album for Stones Throw and serves as an exploration of the mystic potential of free jazz to radically alter one's perception and transcend the provincial setting of one's surroundings. His soundcraft relies heavily on nonlinear logic as a guide with hypnogogic emission as its goal. Yuvi has crafted an unabashedly spiritual broke-beat album inspired by a lucid dream he experienced in which still objects stirred and his sense of time had become flat and inverted. As Yuvi himself explains, “I wanted to create an atmosphere of freedom; of walking in unfamiliar territories while still feeling at home and at ease. There’s a huge music world in my head that I hadn’t expressed or explained, and I decided to try tap into that world of sounds.” If you are looking for something that is easy to digest while leaving plenty of vibes to savor, look no further than these sweet servings of potent dive into the blossoming center of the lotus of deep-knowledge.
